How to find your otoscope or ophthalmoscope lamp reference
The lamp reference is the short code that identifies the bulb your instrument uses. Here is where to look for it.
Replacement bulbs are sold by reference, such as 03100-U, 03400-U or 06500, not by the name of the instrument. Finding that reference first is the surest way to order the right bulb. The places below are listed from most to least reliable.
1. The instrument manual or maker's lamp chart
Most manuals have a replacement lamp or accessories section that lists the lamp reference for each head. Manufacturers also publish lamp charts that match lamp references to instrument model numbers. If you only have the instrument model, search the maker's site for its manual or lamp chart.
2. The instrument itself
Look for a model or catalogue number on the head and on the handle. The head and handle often carry different numbers, and the lamp is usually chosen by the head. Write down both before you search.
3. The old bulb
Some bulbs carry a reference on the base or collar, but many are too small to print on. If you remove the old bulb, follow the steps in how to replace a bulb safely and let the instrument cool first.
4. The packaging or your purchase record
Earlier bulb packs, accessory kits and order histories often show the reference you used last time.
Quick lookup: Welch Allyn chart entries
Welch Allyn's own lamp replacement chart (Baxter/Hillrom support, read 9 October 2026) lists these device models for the references ELVION sells. This is the original manufacturer's listing, not an ELVION fit guarantee, and it gives no electrical ratings. Check your own manual too.

Read the reference carefully
Similar references can belong to different bulbs. A suffix such as “-U” or a prefix such as “HPX” may be part of the reference. For example, ELVION lists 06500 lamps under HPX06500. Match the full reference, and do not assume that two similar references are interchangeable.
Then check the match
Once you have the reference, follow how to choose a replacement bulb. ELVION pages describe each bulb by its reference. They do not state electrical ratings, so confirm the requirements in your instrument manual. If the reference and manual do not agree, send us your instrument model before you buy.

Frequently asked questions
Is the lamp reference the same as the instrument model number?
No. The model number identifies the instrument or head. The lamp reference identifies the bulb. A manual or the maker's lamp chart connects the two.
Does the reference have to include the letters?
Match the full reference as printed in your manual, including any prefix or suffix. Do not assume that references with similar digits are the same bulb.
I cannot find the reference. What should I do?
Note the model numbers on the head and handle, then check the maker's manual. You can also send the model to ELVION through the contact page and we will tell you which ELVION bulb, if any, matches the reference.
